Restoring hope where it is most needed

AiM AN-ID is a research collaborative that aims to fast-track neonatal research using machine learning. Artificial Intelligence has the capacity to make every experience from a baby or parent count towards research. The level of detail and pattern recognition has the capacity to reduce the burden for future families that need access to critical care.

Our manuscript highlighting the benefits of AUS over AR in NEC has been published in BMJ journal ADC

2019 has been a busy year and we are delighted to announce that the British Medical Journal has published our article in Archives of Diseases in Childhood. We want to thank the editorial team for recognising the need to highlight NEC and reserach taht could overcome teh current challenges. Further more NEC UK our sponsors for enabling us to bring our research to the attention of the wider neonatal and radiology research community. We hope soon this can translate into changes in guidelines that AUS is more widely used.

Our manuscript was considered in the recent EPNIC guideline update for POCUS. The NEC diagnostic standard has been updated for AUS.

2020 is off to a great start. EPNIC has taken our review article in consideration and relooked the evidence for AUS. We are so happy to announce that AUS is now part of standard care. The implication is a radical reduction in exposure to ionising radiation for these infants. We are aware that Xrays, as used in NEC screening, can increase the lifetime risk of cancer by 4-20 fold. By replacing AR with AUS we can expect an earlier diagnosis and a big reduction in ionising radiation exposure.

But now the work starts, internationally there is a great need for a standard operating procedure (SOP) for AUS in NEC. We need to train neonatal staff on POCUS and make POCUS equipment more readily available.
